We link the past to the present, inspiring future generations by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of Zeeland and its neighboring communities.
We offer exhibits, programming, and resources that spark conversation and engage all people.
At the Dekker Huis Museum, operated by the Zeeland Historical Society, we curate thoughtful exhibits so visitors can learn about the past to create a better future.
The Dekker Huis Museum showcases the history of Zeeland and its surrounding communities. The museum is housed in the historic 1876 Dekker family home which includes gallery spaces, a barn, and an interurban station. Visitors will enjoy touring the historic home, the recreated 1920s bank and grocery store, the Main Street display, and more.
With a collection of over 20,000 artifacts, there is so much to explore! The museum features various rotating exhibits, offering something new each year.
There is a suggested donation of $5 per adult and $3 per child for admission to the museum.
Unfortunately, we are not yet a fully accessible facility. The first floor has a stairless entry at the back. If you park in the access driveway to the east of the building, there is a paved path that leads you to the back door. It may be helpful for you to call ahead as this door leads to staff offices. You will be able to access the first floor from this door. The second floor is currently only accessible by staircase.
We typically recommend visitors reserve about an hour to tour. It may take more time if you read all the interpretive signs or less if you prefer an overview of the exhibits.
We love young visitors! Several hands-on activities, including Lincoln Logs™ and themed crafts around our special exhibits, are specifically for children.
