Zeeland Historical Society’s House Plaque Program recognizes houses in the City of Zeeland, Zeeland Charter Township, and Holland Charter Township that are over 70 years old and maintain their original exterior architecture.

The program is a way to highlight preservation efforts by inspiring further community involvement and interest in the town’s architectural heritage. The program has helped foster a connection between residents and their local history, encouraging the preservation of the area’s unique character for future generations.

House Plaque Application

The Zeeland Historical Society’s House Plaque Program commemorates our area’s historic residential structures and furthers our mission to link the past to the present, inspiring future generations by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of Zeeland and its neighboring communities. The ZHS House Plaque Program is not affiliated with the State or National Register of Historic Places and does not qualify homeowners for any affiliated grants or tax rebates. For a home to qualify for a house plaque, it must meet the following criteria:
  • Property must lie within the City of Zeeland, Zeeland Township, or Holland Charter Township boundaries.
  • The structure must be at least 70 years old.
  • The structure was primarily built and used as a residence.
  • Original exterior architecture is retained.
To obtain a house plaque, the homeowner must meet the requirements outlined in this application. All research and history should be as complete as possible. This application and your supporting documentation will be kept on file at the Zeeland Historical Society Archives.

Yes, you will be charged $200 upon turning in your application. If your application is denied, you will be refunded the full amount.
