Each year, the American Legion Auxiliary remembers our fallen service members in the month of May. We take the time to honor them with parades, poppies, flags, displays, and stories.
This year, we held our Annual Memorial Day Poppy fundraisers at Ace Hardware, Family Fare, The Zeeland Peddler’s Market, and before the Memorial Day Parade. The Poppies handed out are handmade by our members each year, and all donations collected during this fundraiser go directly to helping our local Veterans, active-duty service members, their families, and the families of our fallen service members.
At the Memorial Day Parade on May 25th, members proudly marched carrying the United States of America Flag and the American Legion Auxiliary Flag. Other members were honored to ride behind all the Veterans who faithfully served our great nation. Seeing the community gathered as they stood and clapped, showing their appreciation and gratitude, was a great privilege.
The Howard Miller Community Center kindly offered their display cabinet for our Memorial display for May, highlighting the four main branches of our military, the American Legion Auxiliary’s commitment to the community, and the celebration of the 250th birthday of the U.S.A.
