Six historic school buildings opened their doors on Sunday, June 2, for the first Ottawa County Schoolhouse tour, celebrating an era when one-room schools were the norm in rural areas and served as the hub of community life.
The schools were open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at locations across the county. The tour was free to the public, but donations were accepted to help in preservation efforts ongoing in many of the buildings.
Brochures with a ticket and map inside could be picked up at any of the locations on the day of the self-guided tour. People visiting all six schools will have an opportunity to win a gas card as a prize.
